For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end (Jeremiah 29: 11 KJV).
Human beings often place limits on God. How do we place limits on God and paralyse our ability to dream? Below are some of the things that can stop us from dreaming as observed by Ken Gaub.
- Feelings of Worthlessness: Sometimes people have a sense of self-depreciation. Some say, “I’m not important. I’m no good. I don’t have the right qualifications to do anything worthwhile.” We all feel like nobodies at certain times in our lives. It is when we start to act like nobodies that our present and future suffers. Some say, “I have a dream, but it won’t work for me. It’s impossible. I’m whipped. I’ve failed before, and I’ll fail again. It won’t happen. I don’t know what to do.” On and on they go with negative thoughts and talking. According to Gaub, they paralyse their success and productivity by their talk of worthlessness.
- Believing the Worst: Gaub remarks that whenever the media informs the public that a country is in recession, people lose confidence, quit buying and more people are thrown out of work. As a result, the cycle widens, and soon, there is a recession. Richard Nixon says, “A recession is any time people lose confidence in the future and think that there are no answers.”
- Dwelling on Circumstances: Do you always think about problems and challenges that you are probably never going to have to face. Some people believe that their situation is hopeless. There is no such thing as an impossible situation, but people can grow hopeless about situations. Your attitude is more important than your finances, your intelligence quotient or your circumstances. We can’t deny circumstances, but we can, but we can refuse to dwell on them and allow them to paralyse our minds. What then makes the difference the person that succeeds and the person that fails? The failures are overwhelmed by unfavourable circumstances, but successful people overcome their circumstances, have dreams and pursue those dreams.
